Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Dumb

Folks, if I can be serious for a minute, drinking and driving is a serious problem in this country. Hundreds of thousands of people, if not more, are affected by it in some way. They might have been in an accident involving a drunk driver and were injured or killed, or they may have lost a loved one to someone who was stupid enough to think they could drive with their blood alcohol level was well above the legal limit. And if you don’t believe drunk drivers are stupid, take a gander at this Richard Petty wannabe…
BERLIN (Reuters) – Officers were dumbfounded when they stopped a Polish woman drunk at the wheel of a stolen car, driving on the wrong side of a motorway and without a license, German police said Tuesday.
“I don’t think I’ve ever encountered such an accumulation of traffic offences,” said Helmuth Klinger, a police spokesman in the western city of Wiesbaden.
Not only was she drunk, but she was driving on the wrong side of the road and the car she was driving in was stolen. Chances are she also had her underpants on backwards.
But it gets even worse, not only was she four times over the legal limit, she was driving against traffic for almost five miles. As bad as that sounds, it’s understandable. The last time I was in Europe, I drove on the wrong side of the road all the time. Hey Germany, you’re on Earth! Drive like an American!

I just found your site and I have enjoyed reading about the dumb crooks out there. I feel safer already! However (three’s always a however) I take issue with your comment about driving like an American and driving on the wrong side of the road. The only place in Europe that they drive on the left hand side of the road is the United Kingdom. On the continent they drive on the right hand side of the road just like we do in America. I lived and drove in Scotland for 32 months (left side of the road) and in Warsaw, Poland for 3 years (right hand side of the road). It can get confusing switching back and forth between the UK and the continent and the states b ut it is manageable.

Actually, Jack. Here in the EU, we drive on the left. I live in Ireland, have been in Italy, and France, We ALL Drive on the Left. Aussies drive Left too! only Americans drive right.
