They would already have enough evidence to lead him to the crime with the fact that he was burning all of his stuff. (not stealing somebody else's car and then torching it and the getting away in your own. but he would have had to burn it a ways from his car [and away from his house] and then walk the distance to his car. After that he would have to get rid of the shoes. but he would not be able to buy new shoes with the stolen money) -that just covers the basics of what he could have done for a better outcome Kind of dumb but i guess he chickened out after, which is still dumb.
