Man and Car on Fire

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 • Filed under Cars, Drunks

Drinking and driving is never a good idea. Drinking and driving a car that’s on fire should never even cross your mind. If it does, drinking won’t help make it go away.

Police arrested the driving of a flaming car with driving while intoxicated, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

And when I say “flaming,” I don’t mean a ridiculously loud car that even Liberace wouldn’t drive. I mean, it was actually on fire.

Police plan on charging the man with a DWI and it’s not “driving while inflammable.”

A North Charleroi man will be cited with driving under the influence after he allegedly drove through Belle Vernon in a van that was on fire early Wednesday.

Southwest Regional Police reported they and the Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department were called to the 100 block of Main Street at 12:40 a.m. for a vehicle fire. En route, firefighters Joel Davis and Brent Cratty spotted the 1993 Ford Econoline being driven on Main Street while ablaze.

Police said Davis was able to get the driver’s attention near the Interstate 70 ramp.

While firefighters extinguished the fire, police officers questioned and subsequently arrested Carl Franklin Miller Jr., 47, of 542 Highland Ave. on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Miller was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital for treatment of injuries caused by the fire. Hospital spokesman Kurt Weber said he was treated and released.

Charges will be filed with Belle Vernon District Judge Jesse Cramer and will be sent to Miller by summons, Hartman said.

Man, I’d really hate to be the firefighter who had to inform the driver that his *car was on fire*. I mean, can you imagine?

FIREFIGHTER (to himself): Did I take LSD this morning? Okay, no. (Out Loud) Hey, sir! Your car’s on fire!
