After reading all the comments, I felt compelled to add my 2 cents. Thanks for indulging me.

The real reason pot will not be legalized is because the drug companies cannot monopolize it – period. Its all about the money folks. They have their “special interest”, and they pay a LOT of money so they can push their man made drugs on you. Ever notice how there is a drug for everything, and a lot of new “syndromes” keep cropping up? You think they spend a lot in advertising? check out what they spend lobbying in order to “shape” the laws.

George Washington GREW it – its a fact. Hemp has so many uses, and is way safer than any drug on the market, yet gets the worst rap, and this is not by coincidence. Check out the side affect for all the drugs you see commercials for – the side affects are worse than what it is they want to cure with their brand new miracle drug.

As for “stoners” dropping out of school? Its a well known fact that our “edjumacation” system here in America is geared toward “dumbing” down the individual in order to make a docile worker bee – god forbid someone thinks for themselves – otherwise they would have to answer the questions “why are we borrowing our own currency from a foreign bank – and who thought this made fiscal sense?” (and to you ArdentSun, stayed in school did ya? followed the program like a good little lemming? I bet you think the federal reserve is a government agency don’t you).

There have been many productive members of society who have dropped out – Bill Gates for one… Myself for another

Yes, pocketbunny makes a good point. So for all the pedophiles out there, since they’re addicted, we should just make that legal too. After all, it’s a lot of money and effort to actually go and get them. Who started this pedophile thing anyway? Mostly statistical jargon, but that last line is what it’s all about. It may be also important to note the low rate of lung cancer among pot smokers, despite the fact that pot contains something like ten times more cancer-causing carcinogens. Cool right? Research is being developed to study weather or not we can fight cancer with cannabis!

Might as well leave my two cents behind. I’ve been smoking the fine stuff for roughly ten years now, and although I’m no authority on marijuana’s “thousands” of chemicals, I do have a little logic in me. Now, why do people assume that the moment pot is legalized everyone in the whole country is immediately going to rush out and get stoned and drive to work and get stoned at work and blow pot smoke in the faces of innocent children? Are YOU going to do that? Of course not. If pot is legalized, the people smoking it are probably just going to be the same people who are smoking it now. (It’s not like it’s hard to find if you haven’t popped all your brain cells with booze, which is one of the real killers) And that’s our choice. Thank God for America. And as for you smokers who foolishly type their petty words in anger- thanks for making us all look bad. (Or shame on you for pretending to be a stoner and making us look bad [winky face]) Whatever your vice may be, be responsible. Peace.

Putting the actual story aside, anyone who is on here to attack people who smoke weed are retarded. Weed does kill brain cells, but you lose more from sneezing. Also any kind of smoke is bad for you, no one will deny it, but marijuana doesnt have thousands of chemical as do cigarettes (which are legal). My brother used to be a competent mechanic before he became a pothead. Then he started doing stupid things, like: Draining the oil, then forgetting he had drained the oil and drove the car around with no oil until the engine seized.

Been using for close to 12 years… 29yr old, grad. from college, comp. sci., math minor. great job 65k+… can’t remember the last time I went more than 2 days without smokin one… no ill effects, way safer than alcohol ppl are really just dumb. I know ppl that have been coke heads for close to 15 -20 yrs and they’re fine… it’s not drugs or guns or video games that make people do bad things to others, it’s the people themselves.. Outlawing drugs and guns is gov. taking responsibility for those that refuse to take responsibility for themselves.

I agree with LawlKat 100% there is a time and place for marijuana. marijuana in itself is not a bad thing its uses are endless. Its when used too much by people with highly addictive personalities that it becomes bad, ever heard the phrase too much of a good thing. I have used marijuana for 12 years now. I have never gone to work high i use it after a hard 18 hour shift sometimes to bring me down. I know the risks and there are so many things that we put in our bodies and inhale on a daily basis that are worse for your body than marijuana. to say that everyone who smokes marijuana is “stupid” and “lazy” they are ignorant because I am a “potsmoker” and a medical doctor. I say marijuana is just what the doctor recommends.

I agree with LawlKat. Some people just don’t understand that there is a time and a place for everything. For some odd reason there are people that go to work stoned off their *** but those same people wouldn’t got to work drunk(even though there are people that do). I’m neither against or for the legalization of marijuana but I just don’t seem to see why people make such a big deal about the drug. There are legal drugs that “Impair Your Judgement,” so why don’t you people ***** and complain about them?

As a mother, I’m no longer a smoker anymore (haven’t been for 3 years, I’m not going to lose my children over a leisure), but that was the only thing that got me through high school and college. My ADHD was so bad, I couldn’t get ANYTHING done. All the medications we tried I was either allergic to, or made me so zombie-like, my family and friends could barely interact with me. As for the people who say that it makes people lazy and unmotivated, IMO, that is an untruth. Yes, it lowers motivation, but I always knew when I could smoke and when I couldn’t. In the 6 years that I smoked marijuana, I never ONCE went to work stoned. Marijuana doesn’t MAKE slackers, it makes the slackers WORSE. I knew quite a few ‘stoners’, myself included, who had the wherewithal and the self control to put responsibilities first, smoking second. So, please, let’s not stereotype. On another note, marijuana can be used for many, many, MANY things besides altering one’s state of mind. It can be used to make clothing, oil, PAPER. I hate to sound like a tree-hugger, but we could save SO many rainforests by making paper out of hemp instead of wood. Marijuana grows in one season, whereas trees take decades to grow (and be replaced). Marijuana has less carcinogens than cigarettes, (naturally, because, well…. it’s natural) and damages the brain much less than what most young Americans do by drinking. The United States Government, for chrissakes, administers it for medicinal purposes. Now, this is not to say that dumb people, such as this guy, don’t misuse and abuse marijuana. But dumb people misuse and abuse alcohol, with much more unfortunate results. I, for one, have NEVER heard of anyone who’s gotten so stoned that they passed out in their own vomit and asphyxiated, or beat their wife to death. Sorry for writing a dissertation, but I think that most people are very deluded as to the actual effects, benefits, and dangers of marijuana. The propaganda ads from the 70′s did more damage than they expected, methinks…
