Friends Don’t Let Friends Steal Their Identity

Sunday, April 8th, 2007 • Filed under Drunks, Theft

Identity theft is such a horrible crime that’s growing in frequency almost every single day. But when happens when the identity they steal turns against them?

DE QUEEN, Ark. (AP) - A ruse worked for a De Queen man who used his brother’s name after being picked up for another drunken-driving charge until he called his brother and asked him to bail him out of jail.

Police said an officer arrested Sebastian Nabor, 28, early Sunday after the car Nabor was driving hit a curb. When Officer Ernesto Echevarria smelled alcohol and found an open container of beer in the car, Nabor gave his name as Antonio Moreno Nabor.

He called the person he was impersonating to get him out of jail. Can you imagine what that one phone call would be like? First of all, it would be pretty short.

And what do you do if you’re this guy’s brother? I mean other than beat the whole living tar out of him.

And just think, he was one letter away from trying to impersonate Jim Nabors, TV’s “Gomer Pyle” and I was one letter away from fulfilling my third Christmas wish.

My sister did this. And then told me about it after the fact.

Sister: “Did you know you have a perfect driving record?”
Me: “Um, yes, but how did *you* know?”
Sister: “Oh, I got pulled over and since I have a warrant, I gave them your driver’s license number.”

Ok, somehow the police believed that my 33 year old, 100-lbs-soaking-wet, 5′6″ druggie sister (who at the time looked way older) was me, a 21 year old, 140 lb, 5′0″ (I was often mistaken for a high schooler) non-druggie. I’m still not sure how that happened. In any case, I find myself fortunate that she doesn’t know where I live now. :-/

Ooh, ouch! Can you say dead sister? I would have killed my sister or brother for doing that to me! It really does suck to be you.
