Bad Dream House

STUPID: Trying to settle your differences with a shotgun. STUPIDER: Trying to settle your differences with a shotgun and showing up at the wrong house. STUPIDERER: Trying to settle your differences with a shotgun and showing up at the wrong house of an off-duty sheriff’s deputy.
TOLEDO, Ohio (Toledo Blade) — University of Toledo football player Richard Davis, toting a shotgun and a handgun, was looking to settle an ongoing dispute with a teammate yesterday when he tried to enter what he thought was his teammate’s house in southwest Toledo, police said.
But the 21-year-old junior was greeted at gunpoint by Vincent Scott, an off-duty Lucas County sheriff’s deputy.
I believe this qualifies Davis for the “Mistake of the Years Awards,” sponsored by Mountain Dew. He’s nominated along side Don Imus for his comments on the Rutgers women’s basketball team, Rosie O’Donnell’s conscience and the guy who invented Crystal Pepsi, a record seven time nominee.
Davis told investigators he was trying to scare a teammate with the weapon because he believes he cheated him out of some money. Police said he got into a shoving match with the teammate and that he was (surprise!) drunk. How many hunters have to shoot themselves in the foot before the world learns that guns and alcohol go together like gum and ass?
Police also said Davis was “lucky” that he went to a trained law enforcement officer’s home, according to the story. Good thing he was carrying his four leaf clover, too.

That would have been a case of “natural selection” right there and then.
In our lives the unlucky, the unwary and the stupid tend to be eliminated along the way. Mixing alcohol and guns makes for an exellent membership in the latter group…
