Knowing is Half the Battle

Once and for all, for the last time, I’m not going to repeat myself: saying “I didn’t know” does not change anything. It doesn’t make your girlfriend un-pregnant. It doesn’t bring back your dog Scruffy and it sure as hell won’t get your charges dropped.
A Jamaican man who hijacked a passenger jet had just that excuse for his actions: “I dunno,” according to the CBC.
He literally said through his attorney that he did not know hijacking a plane full of people was illegal. Come on dude, it didn’t work when you were five when you took over the school bus at gunpoint. What made you think it would work this time?
Defense attorneys were trying to claim a mental illness defense for his actions, but the judge didn’t buy it and found him guilty. Again, if the Enron executives couldn’t get out of a mental illness defense…

Technically, one could argue that all criminals are “not in their right mind”. But this guy needs to learn that breaking the law is in fact, illegal.

Judge: Well, I can’t believe it son. What cause you to do this?
Steve: Well, uh, you see…
Judge: Boy, you tellin’ me, you go on a drug related orgy of violence, and
blow up the weiner truck?
Steve: You see your honor, I didn’t mean to blow up the Oscar Myer bus.
I, *whisper* I didn’t know it was illegal!
Judge: Oh, I see. Well **** boy, you be careful next time. *WHAM* Case
dismissed!
