Stupor Bowl Sunday

I thought the Eighth Amendment prevented judges from issuing “cruel and unusual punishments” like this…
CLEVELAND (AP) – The fan who ran onto the field at Cleveland Browns Stadium during a Steelers-Browns game was sentenced Tuesday to spend Super Bowl weekend in jail.
Nathan Mallett, 24, will begin his three-day sentence on Feb. 3 and won’t be allowed to watch the Feb. 5 game on television or listen to it on radio.
Mallett got what fantasty football fans are calling “the death penalty” after he raced onto his home turf on Dec. 24 during the Pittsburgh-Cleveland game because he said he was upset over Pittsburgh’s 41-0 soulcrushing win. The best part is when Steelers linebaker James Harrison slammed him into the astroturf and held him down until police arrived. Given the fact that a wet band-aid has more defensive talent than Cleveland, it was the most exciting tackle of the whole game.
Instead of the lesser charge of 30 days in jail, Municipal Court Judge Joan Synenberg ordered him to three days in jail on Super Bowl weekend and placed him on probation for five years with the added stipulation that he not attend any football games. Given the fact that he’s a Cleveland fan, he should be thanking her for that.
One more Cleveland joke. Mallett expressed remorse in court for his actions. He should be more remorseful that he publicly admitted that he was a Cleveland fan.
