LAPEL, Ind. (AP) - A teenager arrested for shoplifting had filled her pockets with so many items that her pants dropped to her ankles as she tried to run out of the store, police said.

Cheyanne E. Dwiggins, 18, is accused of trying to steal candy, kitchen utensils and a box of strawberry Nestle’s Nesquik, among other items, from Bauer’s Market in Lapel, about 25 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

Dwiggins, who was arraigned Thursday on one count of theft, was being held Friday on $5,000 bond.

The store first became suspicious of her because she tried to buy a 59 cent piece of candy, but only had 40 cents on her. But when the store owner confronted her, she ran and her pants hit the ground. At this point, she was either trying to hide too many stolen goods in her pants or seduce her way to freedom.

She still tried to run with her pants dangling around her ankles, but the weight of the stolen items slowed her down giving the authorities ample time to catch her before she fled the store. Authorities would have captured her right away, but they were slowed down by the weight of their uncontrollable laughter.

The sad part is Dwiggins will faces charges of theft and shoplifting. The good part is the security camera video won the $10,000 grand prize on last week’s episode of “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”
